California Drought Employment Training Program

Assisting workers impacted by the drought

This program is funded through an interagency agreement between the Employment Training Panel (ETP) and the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO), using General Funds made available by the State Legislature. The project was developed based on recommendations by the ETP Drought Subcommittee.

Training programs will be provided to a variety of individuals who certify that their employment has been affected by the drought, including: unemployed, laid off, under-employed, incumbent, low-socioeconomic etc.

Training programs will be offered from Spring 2015 to Spring 2016.

Participating Colleges:

Fresno City College - Forklift driver/warehouse technician - REGISTRATION CLOSED

This program will serve individuals seeking employment as warehouse technicians and/or forklift drivers and will seek to serve individuals who are English language learners by including Vocational ESL. Successful completers will be prepared for forklift operators certification as per OSHA regulations, achieve CPR/first aid certification, OSHA 10, and will have enhanced math, language, computer and life skills.

Program will be offered twice: February - May 2015 and again July - September 2015

Reedley College - Irrigation evaluation & maintenance and food safety technician -

REGISTRATION CLOSED

The irrigation technician program will serve individuals seeking employment in the agriculture industry. Successful completers will learn about topics included in the Certified Agriculture Irrigation Specialist industry certificate through the Irrigation Association. Trainees will gain skills in system efficiency, as well as enhanced plant and soil science skills.

The Food Safety technician program will serve individuals seeking employment in the food precessing, packaging and distribution industry. Successful completers will be HACCP certified and trained in Sanitary Standard Operating procedures (SSOP). Trainees will gain skills in food processing, safety and Quality assurance

Modesto Junior College - Logistics & warehouse technician and irrigation technician -

REGISTRATION CLOSED

the Logistics tech program will serve individuals seeking employment as warehouse technicians and/or forklift drivers. additionally the program will seek to serve individuals who are English Language learners by including Vocational ESL. The Irrigation Technician Program serves individuals seeking employment as Irrigation Technicians, Farm Managers, System Operators and they will have the skills to preform system evaluations and adjustments.  Training will be divided into General Irrigation Technician and Advanced Irrigation Technician at 125 hours each.  The advanced training will be appropriate for updating the skills of current workers.  Both trainings will include skills identified by industry leaders as most critical.  Successful completers will be prepared for the Certified Agriculture Irrigation Specialist test offered by the Irrigation Association.  The training will be delivered at Modesto Junior College east and west campus sites and will include a combination of classroom instruction and work experience.

Merced College - Water treatment operations and Electrical Industrial Maintenance -

REGISTRATION CLOSED

The Water Treatment program will serve individuals seeking employment as water/wastewater plant operators.  Additionally, the program will provide life skills for individuals with a 90-hour add-on component of Customer Service Academy training.  Successful completers will be prepared for state certification for waste water treatment plant operator, grade I and II (entry level) and will have enhanced math, computer, and life skills.  Furthermore, the individuals will receive a Customer Service Academy Certification of Completion.

The Industrial Maintenance program will serve individuals seeking employment as industrial maintenance mechanics.   Additionally, the program will provide life skills for individuals with a 94-hour add-on component of Customer Service Academy and Thrive & Survive in the Workplace training.  Successful completers will be prepared for OSHA 10 Certification and will have enhanced computer and life skills.  Furthermore, the individuals will receive a Customer Service Academy Certification of Completion.

West Hills College - Certified Agriculture Irrigation Specialist and Qualified Applicators License

REGISTRATION CLOSED

The Irrigation Specialist program will provide training and preparation to students seeking to obtain the Certified Agriculture Irrigation Specialists (CAIS).  Additionally, the program will seek to serve individuals who are English language learners by including 16 hours add-on component of Vocational ESL for those who need it.

the Qualified Applicators License program will provide theory, academic and lab preparation to students seeking to obtain a Qualified Application License (QAL).  The training/instruction will be delivered in a three week academy based program.

College of the Sequoias - Certified Production Technician + Vocational ESL

REGISTRATION CLOSED

This program will serve individuals seeking entry level production jobs in the emerging Advanced Manufacturing Sector. Additionally, the program will seek to serve individuals who are English language learners by including an 80-hour add-on component of Vocational ESL for those who need it.  Successful completers will gain core production skills and knowledge and be prepared to become Certified Production Technicians (CPT) as per the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC).
